Girls’ Spaces: Shibuya Girls Award Beauty Cafe

This is Part Two of a series of posts about dedicated spaces for girls and women in Tokyo, especially created by brands. You can read Part One here

Beauty Cafe by GirlsAward opened in central Shibuya about two years ago with gyaru in mind. A shop, café, and bar on the first, second and third floors respectively, are run by dokusha-moderu (“reader models”), amateur models in youth fashion magazines. There is a large TV screen showing old Girls Award runway show.

The shop in the first floor sells gyaru items like color contact lenses, faux lashes, cosmetics, and other beauty products.

Faux lashses are a must in a Shibuya gyaru’s look and they come in a large variety of styles.

Even some makeup from a popular Korean brand, Etude House.
On to the second floor!

This is the “cute” café for non-smokers, where food and sweets are served.

The atmosphere here is light and relaxed, perfect for catching up with friends and chatting.

There are even some prints of Korean celebrities for sale hanging on the wall.

I ordered a latte for 630 yen.

The third floor is the “stylish” bar for smokers and customers can go there for drinks.

There is a cooler bar atmosphere for lounging, but just as comfortable.

GirlsAward’s Beauty Cafe and bar appeal to a broad range of young women with different styles from cute and girly to stylish and cool, and even men. Though it may be pricey for some high school students, this could be a good place to relax by yourself or chat with a friend over some food and tea.
